API Advisory 9 – Recognition and Authority of Published Standards

The American Petroleum Institute (API) recently published API Advisory 9, which outlines the need for members of the API Monogram and APIQR Programs to hold active and current subscriptions to API publications.

To obtain API publications, there are two options: Directly through API or through a distributor such as Nimonik.

If your organization is part of these programs and requires an active API subscription, we recommend one of the following paths.

  1. If you only need API documents and do not require standards or technical publications from other publishers, we recommend purchasing your API subscription directly from API. Direct purchases from API will be more cost-effective and allow you to access all the relevant material you require to maintain your participation in the programs.
  2. If you require publications from many different technical standards publishers such as API, AMPP, NACE, SSPC, ASTM, ASCE, CSA, IPC and others, you will be better served by a standards aggregator such as Nimonik. Nimonik offers access to over 90 publishers on a single platform and can help optimize your subscription for your needs. You can show your active subscription to an API inspector and ensure full compliance. Nimonik is an authorized API distributor.

We have included the Advisory 9 from the American Petroleum Institute (API) below.

Recognition and Authority of Published Standards

Recognition and Authority of Published Standards The API Monogram, Repair and Remanufacture, and APIQR Programs are committed to maintaining the integrity of API’s licensing and certification programs. To help meet this commitment, the API Monogram, Repair and Remanufacture, and APIQR Programs require each applicant, licensee, and/or registrant to possess an official active subscription for all API documents identified in the scope of the application, license, and/or registration.

The subscription content must include a watermark containing the organization’s name. The organization shall maintain subscription access through either API directly or an API-authorized redistributor as long as the organization is actively participating in any API licensing and certification program. Failure to comply with the above may result in the suspension or cancellation of the organization’s API Monogram License(s), API Repair and Remanufacture Program License(s) and/or APIQR Certificate(s) of Registration. Authorized subscriptions can be purchased through API directly or through an authorized API redistributor listed on API’s website.
