About ASTM and ASTM Standards

Established in 1898 by Charles B. Dudley, Ph.D., a chemist from the Pennsylvania Railroad, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), which was later rebranded to ASTM International in 2001, is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of voluntary consensus standards.

ASTM, headquartered in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, and with offices in Washington, D.C., Belgium, Canada, China, and Peru, has over 30,000 world-class technical experts and business professionals from 140 countries contributing to developing these international standards. They serve various industries, such as metals, construction, petroleum, consumer products, etc. When new sectors like nanotechnology, additive manufacturing, and industrial biotechnology seek to advance cutting-edge technologies through standardization, many turn to ASTM International.

Through an open and transparent process facilitated by ASTM’s cutting-edge IT infrastructure, these members collaborate to create test methods, specifications, classifications, guides, and practices that serve industries and governments worldwide.

Today, more than 12,000 ASTM standards are implemented globally to enhance product quality, ensure health and safety, facilitate market access and trade, and instill consumer confidence. These standards span various products, from children’s toys to aircraft.

Nimonik provides access to the comprehensive Annual Book of ASTM Standards, comprising over 80 volumes and containing more than 12,800 standards. Available in print and online formats, these volumes can be purchased individually, as sections, or as a complete set.
