New ASME B107.110 replaces 7 B107 series standards

Jonathan Brun

Modified:

ASME B107.110-2012, “Socket Wrenches, Handles, and Attachments,” has just been released.  The new standard replaces 7 ASME B107 series documents, all of which have been withdrawn.

ASME B107.110 consolidates the following ASME standards:

The new release covers performance and safety requirements for socket wrenches (sockets), , handles used with these wrenches, nutdrivers, and attachments used with socket wrenches.  It divides the material into Categories:

  • Category 1 is Hand Driven Socket Wrenches,
  • Category 2 is Socket Wrenches, Extensions, Adaptors, and Universal Joints, Power Drive (Impact),
  • Category 10 is Handles and Attachments for Hand Socket Wrenches,
  • Category 12 is Nutdrivers, and
  • Category 34 is Spark Plug Socket Wrenches.

ASME warns that not all of the products described in ASME B107.110 are stock production sizes.  Customers are encouraged to consult with manufacturers concerning the sizes and lengths.

The consolidation of various standards into one document represents a heavy workload for Committee B107 at ASME.  It is much easier to review and revise an existing document than to generate a new one from scratch.  However, it is expected that the new format will provide industry with better functionality and will be worth the effort.
