Canada – Alberta

Amended document – Employment Standards Regulation
Amending document – Employment Standards (Special Provisions) Amendment Regulation

First effective date – 2019-12-03
Industry – general

A change to this document has been announced. The effect of the changes is notably to add requirements for employees working in mobile workover or completion service drilling operations, oil and gas continuous operations and roadbuilding or heavy construction operations by (1) confining the hours of work; (2) requiring employers to allow an employee to rest for at least 8 consecutive hours if the employee worked for more than 12 consecutive hours; and (3) requiring employers to allow roadbuilding or heavy construction operations employees 4 days of rest for each 4 consecutive work week period, with certain exceptions. Canada – New Brunswick

Amended document – Occupational Health and Safety Act
Amending document – An Act to Amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act

First effective date – 2020-01-01
Industry – general

A change to this document has been announced. The effect of the changes is notably to (1) add requirements for employers concerning supervisors’ knowledge and competency on health and safety matters; (2) add duties for supervisors respecting the health and safety of employees under their supervision; and (3) extend certain employer’s duties to supervisors. US – New Jersey

Amended document – NJS Chapter 13-1E
Amending document – An Act concerning certain driver’s license suspensions and amending, supplementing, and repealing various parts of the statutory law

First effective date – 2021-01-20

Bailiwick of Guernsey

New principal document – The Air Pollution (Dark Smoke) (Exemptions) Regulations, 2019 

First effective date – 2019-12-02
Industry – building management and maintenance

This document provides for exemptions from prohibitions relating to the emission of dark smoke from chimneys of buildings, fixed boilers, industrial plants, and vessels.

Brazil

New Principal document –Decree No. 10.088, of November 5, 2019 Consolidates normative acts issued by the Federal Executive Power that provide for the promulgation of conventions and recommendations of the International Labor Organization – ILO ratified by the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Repealed document – Decree Nº. 2.657 of July 3, 1998, Safety in Use of Chemicals at Work

First effective date – 2019-12-06

This legislation consolidates several conventions and recommendations of the International Labor Organization (ILO) that contain occupational health and human ressources requirements.

France

New principal document – Environmental Code Articles R515-117 to R515-121: Industrial platforms

First effective date – 2020-01-01
Industry – general, building management and maintenance

This section regulates the designation and organization of industrial platforms. It notably requires the platform manager to comply with certain rules for the prevention and management of industrial accidents, and in some cases, with requirements respecting effluents treatment. India

Amended document – The Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986
Amending document – Environment (Protection) Second Amendment Rules, 2019

First effective date – 2019-12-26
Industry – general, office spaces, building management and maintenance

A change to this document has been announced. The effect of the change is notably to add effluent standards for the automobile service station, bus depot or workshop industry, and to specify that solid wastes/hazardous waste for this industry must be disposed of according to certain regulations. New principal document – Environmental regulation
