New Feature: Introducing Topics

By ,

We are happy to announce that as of today, topics are available on! They are designed to help you easily set-up and organize your compliance obligations.

Topics group legal documents according to important themes. Topics are structured in a three tiered tree format, with first level topics being the most general, and third level topics being highly specific. When you select to include a first level topic in your compliance obligations, all of the second and third level topics associated with it will be included as well.

The Document Types classification has also been revamped, and now contains only different types of document, such as Legislation, Standards, and Permits.

You can see the topics and document types associated with the legislation accessible to you using the drop down menus on the Legislation page.

These changes will also affect the way that you create and manage your compliance obligations. When creating a new register, you will now be able to select the first level topics that you would like to include. Please note that our team is still in the process of assigning topics. As a result, we advise that you include the “Uncategorized” environmental and health and safety topics in new registers that will contain environmental or health and safety documents, and that you include the “Uncategorized” topic for registers that will contain documents outside of the scope of EHS.

This will cause a list of selectable legislation to appear. Next to the title of each legal document will be the complete list of applicable jurisdictions and topics.

Once your compliance obligations register has been created, you will be able to see the applicable topics when you click on the title of each document.

When you access the “add an obligation” page, a list of all of the first level topics included in the Compliance Obligations Register will be displayed at the top of the page.

You can adjust the topics included in you compliance obligations at any time on the edit page of the compliance obligation.

We hope that you like the new legal tracking setup, please keep an eye out, as we will soon be associating more specific topics to legislation so that you can easily locate the legislation that this applicable to your operations.
