The 2nd Nimonik China EHS conference, in partnership with BSI and ERM, was held on March 9, 2018, in Shanghai. BSI and ERM are leading global firms in the EHS compliance industry. Like the first Nimonik EHS China Conference in November 2017, this event too was a huge success.
The speakers, ERM Partner, Ms Yongjie Wang and BSI Quality Branch President, Ms Minxiu Wang shared insightful information with 35 EHS professionals on Construction Project Environmental Permit System and Leadership Role Vs Safety Performance respectively.
Ms Yongjie Wang introduced the changes in the environmental protection licensing system, decoded complicated issues, and provided comprehensive details on the management of environmental impact assessment in light of practice. A key analysis was made on implementing the project’s self-determination and acceptance of construction projects, covering four phases:
- holding an acceptance meeting
- putting forward an acceptance opinion
- preparing an acceptance report, and
- publicizing the acceptance report
Ms Minxiu Wang introduced the new ISO 45001:2018 standard and explained how it differs from the old OHSAS 18001 standard. She elaborated on the overall structure of the PDCA cycle and highlighted the impact of safety incidents on various stakeholders. The discussion took a lively turn when Ms Wang engaged the audience to suggest ways to make upper management more involved in safety and more accessible to EHS personnel.
Ms Yusi Wang, the newly appointed China Country Manager, too made a splendid opening speech on the new features introduced as a result of the merger of Envitool and Nimonik.
The conference took a turn from the usual traditional teaching methods and instead adopted the modern and lively format of case-studies, group discussions and activities to train the personnel. With frequent breaks, refreshments and animated discussions, the attendees ended the day in high spirits.
