I just came across two environmental stories buried in the back today’s paper. The first describes a 22 000 barrel oil spill in Alberta, one of the largest in years. The second story concerns on ongoing legal battle between Ecuadorians and Chevron. Chevron was recently found guilty of massive oil spills and land contamination and ordered to pay 18.3 billion dollars in damages, Chevron is appealing. More interestingly, the Ecuadorian plaintiffs are attempting to get an Ontario court to seize Chevron assets. The movie below documents the battle taking place between the Oil company and the local population in Ecuador.
