In New-Brunswich, D.L. St. Onge Enterprise Inc. pleaded guilty to a violation of the Watershed Protected Area Designation Order under the Clean Water Act.
The company was charged by the Department of Environment with failing to comply with harvesting restrictions within the Iroquois River watershed.
The company had purchased stumpage from a private woodlot owner, and began to harvest the trees. The area was within a Protected Area. Harvesting is restricted to 25 % of a parcel that is greater than 10 hectares, whereas the parcel was larger in this case. The company clear cut over 60 % of the parcel.
The fine was $1,200.
